The Best Free VST Instruments - Strings:
Audio production software for mastering, mixing, and music composing:
Analog String Machine
StringSynth by AlgoMusic is an emulation of the late 70's string synthesizers by ARP and Solina. The sound is generated by feeding the sawtooth/pulse waveform through a series of effects most notably a delay-line emulating the Bucket Brigade circuits installed in the old analog synthesizers. The free StringSynth VST plugin also features an amplitude- and a filter envelope, 1 LFO, ensemble feedback, phaser, and vibrato. It offers 40 presets and a sound that is very rich and analog sounding.
String Ensemble VST
The String Theory VST plugin by Ugo is a physical modeling hybrid synth with delay based oscillators perfect for making plucked strings, atmospheric pads, and ambiences. It comes with 173 presets and features an amplitude envelope with tremolo, two filter envelopes with LFO's, a pitch LFO, and a metalize fx section. The String Theory VST plugin also offers two arpeggiators. Each with its own speed, gate, and octave controls.
String Ensemble Rompler
Stringer by FalkeLab is in essence a free VST sample / soundfont player based on 5 different ensemble synths of the 70's (Eminent 310, Mellotron, Arp string ensemble, Crumar Performer, and Korg Trident). The Stringer VST plugin doesn't come with many features just an amplitude envelope and a filter, but the overall quality of the samples is good and the filter is smooth and works very well with the sounds.
