38911 Bytes by Odo is a free vst chip synth with a fantastic sound. Basically it's a 1 oscillator synth with 4 waveforms: Saw, Triangle, Pulse, and pitched Noise. To shape the generated sound, the 38911 Bytes chip synth comes with a ringmodulation oscillator with 3 waveforms (saw,triangle,pulse), two LFOs with 19 waveforms, three 8-step sequencers (1 waveform, 1 octave, 1 note), and three ADSR-envelopes (filter, pulse, and pitch). 38911 Bytes comes with 128 great chip-tune presets.

Casio HT-700 Emulation

Plastique by de la Mancha is a subtractive synth, using the 31 waveforms from the Casio HT-700 synth. This free vst synth features 2 oscillators, an arpeggiator synced to the tempo, LFO, volume and pitch envelopes, low-pass filter, and some lo-fi options to reduce the sound quality. The Plastique retro synth does 80's and modern sounds equally well. It comes with 64 presets.
